Theta Xi

University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

We are Theta Xi

Theta Xi Fraternity (ΘΞ) is a North American Greek-letter social college fraternity. It was founded at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on April 29, 1864. Of all the social fraternities today, Theta Xi was the only one founded during the Civil War. Its Grand Lodge is headquartered in suburban St. Louis, Missouri.

The Theta Xi Sigma Chapter is located at 1345 Washtenaw Ave, two blocks from the University of Michigan's central campus. The chapter house, or "Xouse", is the largest on campus with 35? bedrooms. We currently have a brotherhood size of around 90 members, with about one third of all brothers living in the house.

More details about the Sigma Chapter experience can be found below, while historical information about the national fraternity can be found here.

Our Mission & Brotherhood

We have numerous ways to ensure that each brother gets to fully enjoy their college experience. We have events year-round, including semi formal and formal retreats. Brothers commonly help each other with academic and career advice, participate and philanthropy, and more. It is the goal of Theta Xi to provide a well rounded college experience to all brothers, and thus many brothers participate in additional campus organizations such as business fraternities, intramural sports teams, or student government.

Our chapter requires each member to obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. We provide a number of resources to allow our brothers to succeed academically.  Brothers attend weekly study tables where they can get help on their school work, as well as receive advice from a host of older brothers from a variety of backgrounds. The Sigma Chapter also boasts a large and diverse network of alumni who are available to provide career counseling and guidance.

Theta Xi's national charity is the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Our chapter holds an annual "Defend the Diag" during rivalry week to help raise awareness and collect money for the cause.  We also hold a number of smaller philanthropic events throughout the semester and participate in Greek Life philanthropic tournaments such as Mud Bowl and Winterfest.

Social events run throughout the year and include sorority mixers, formal date parties, football tailgates, and more. The majority of the events are held at the house and at live-out brother's houses/apartments, while date parties are often in Detroit or Chicago.
